Burton and Winkton Parish Council - Environment and Amenities
Martins Hill Recreation Ground hedges have been reduced in height and width over the last two years with the latest haircut taking place last month. Holly bushes were over 20 foot high 3 years ago making some areas dark and oppressive. The work has uncovered previously unknown drains and the area is now lighter and visible from Martins Hill Lane and Close with the added bonus of reducing anti-social behaviour. BWPC has planted more Queens Green Canopy Trees and the final element of the rejuvenation project is to create a wild flower bank.
Children from Burton Primary School are helping us with the seeding next month. The school will also be Maypole Dancing on Burton Green this spring and their expertise is being used to lead the Maypole Dancing in Christchurch as part of the celebrations following the King’s Coronation.
The Community Centre goes from strength to strength, before lockdown it had 3 regular hirers, this figure has risen to 17 with fitness, special needs, theatre and faith groups using our sports hall and meeting rooms. it is a popular venue for children’s parties at the weekend. It is also our Parish Council Office and hosts our meetings.
BW Neighbourhood Plan
Despite being launched in 2018 little progress has been made. Our NP consultant attended our last parish meeting and an action plan is now in place. Hopefully it will inject new impetus. The duplicate and defunct Facebook pages are to be brought in line with our BWPC Social Media Policy. The 117 pages of the draft design plan has been reviewed in detail and we are awaiting the revised version.
